Martinsville Sportsman's Conservation Club

2019 Board Letter

Martinsville Sportsmanís Conservation Club

November 2018

Time for renewal is here.  We hope that everyone has had a chance to spend many pleasant hours at the club this year.

Rifle racks and tables were added to the 2 new bays in the back.  This pretty much completes these bays other than routine maintenance.

Those of you that have been to the range since mid-summer have probably noticed the new plate rack on pistol bay 1.  We hope you have been able to shoot the plate rack.  It is a lot of fun.  The Board has allocated funds to purchase one more plate rack and a Texas Star.  As soon as we can catch a sale on these they will also be installed on Pistol Bay 1.  Please remember that Pistol Bay 1 is a pistol only (pistol caliber only as well) bay and no rifles are allowed.  If it has a butt-stock it is a rifle even if it is 22 LR caliber.

This year was the first year that we had national level trainers at the club.  In August Dave Spaulding of Handgun Combatives came and put 14 members thru their paces.  In September Bob Whaley a Gunsite instructor gave a basic pistol course.  In 2019 we plan to conduct 4 more training courses of this type.  There will be an introductory pistol class as well as an intermediate class and a basic carbine class.  There will also be a shotgun class.  These are in the planning stages so keep an eye on the website and watch your e-mail in-box for notifications on these classes if this is something you would be interested in.

We now have mass e-mailing capabilities so please be sure that your e-mail address is updated and correct on your renewal application so we can notify you of upcoming club events.

Once again for 2018 we saw a 100% renewal rate for the club.  Thank you all for making this one of - if not the best club in Indiana.  The Board wanted to give an opportunity for some new blood to enter the club.  So on New Year's day, we will make 20 memberships available via a drawing for existing members to sponsor their friends and 5 more sponsored memberships available via an auction. There is another letter in your packet explaining these memberships more.

We would like to take this opportunity to point out some of the items to remember when you come to the club:
  • You are required to wear your badge/entrance card any time you are on club property.
  • Please take a few seconds to review the signs on the shelters to see if there are new items to be aware of.
  • If there are closure signs and you are not sure what they mean Ė please err on the side of more caution/safety rather than less.
  • Please be courteous to all others on the ranges.
  • Steel core ammo and 50 BMG ammo is not allowed to be shot at our steel targets. This includes common green tip AR ammo as it has a steel core penetrator.

We look forward to another successful and safe year and we hope that you all renew your membership.
